Cut bigger and thicker than yuk-sashimi

Even among raw beef, mungtigi has its own character.

  • It's cut bigger and thicker
  • So as you chew, the beef aroma and texture come through much more clearly

You eat it with a house gochujang-based sauce. The recipe varies by restaurant, and this one goes well with the meat.

Ageing, and the yukjeon

I didn't confirm whether this place sells it same-day or ages it for 1–2 days. Ask on the spot if it matters to you.

The main event is mungtigi, but the yukjeon — beef sliced thin, coated in egg and pan-fried — was good as well. Worth ordering on the side.

What it looks like

Deep red mungtigi lies overlapped in a ring on a black plate. Each piece is large enough that it would not go into the mouth in one bite, with faint white marbling here and there. On the dark board beside it, three beef pancakes are pan-fried golden, with a heap of seasoned minari greens in front of them. A pot of clear soup and a bowl of shredded seaweed can be seen at the side.

For foreign visitors

  • Mungtigi is raw, uncooked beef. Think of it as the same family as yukhoe or beef tartare. If raw meat is unfamiliar to you, it may be a lot.
  • The sauce is gochujang-based, so it's slightly spicy (about 1 out of 5). The meat itself isn't spicy.
  • Yukjeon is cooked, so if raw meat is daunting, that's the safer choice.
  • The room is small. Book ahead.

Who this suits

  • ✅ You like yukhoe / raw beef and want to try it with a thicker, meatier bite
  • ✅ As something to eat with a drink during a Mapo evening
  • ✅ You want to reserve and have a seat waiting
  • ⚠️ Raw meat is unfamiliar to you — start with yukjeon, or another dish
  • ⚠️ You can't handle any spice at all — the sauce is gochujang-based (you can skip it)
  • ⚠️ You want a big room and a leisurely meal — seating is limited

Before you go

  • Reservations — the place is small, so booking is the safe move.
  • Ageing method — I didn't confirm whether it's same-day or aged 1–2 days. Ask when you visit if you're curious.
  • Hours · prices · closing day — weekdays 11:00–23:00 (break 14:00–17:00), Saturday 17:00–23:00, closed Sundays; Mungtigi starts at 49,000 KRW (as of Aug 2026). Worth a quick check before you go.
  • Nearby — for a coffee to cut through the meat afterward, Fritz Coffee Dohwa is walkable, in the same Dohwa-dong neighborhood.
Written up after eating there myself. Impressions of taste and texture can vary from person to person. I didn't confirm the ageing method, so check the venue's details once more before you go. Prices and hours are (as of Aug 2026).
