Fritz Coffee Dohwaa Mapo Cafe in a Converted House, for After a Meal

A cafe near Mapo Station, in an old Western-style house that's been converted. Of Fritz Coffee's several branches, this is the main one on the Mapo side.

Good to drop into after a meal

The area around Mapo Station is food-street territory, thick with places to eat. This is a good spot to come to afterwards, for a cup of tea and some bread as dessert.

A plate of croissant and pastries, with seasonal ades

I don't judge bread with any depth. I just cut into a croissant and had it with a seasonal ade topped with thyme, as dessert, and left happy. Coffee is what this place is known for, but this visit was a light one.

The building itself is a converted house

Through the tiled gate there's a small yard and a short flight of steps. The brick and the wooden window frames have been kept, so it has an atmosphere a newly built cafe doesn't. In summer, trumpet-vine flowers hang red over the gate.

What it looks like — the entrance

An old tile-roofed gate stands at the front, with a vine bearing orange flowers climbing over it to the edge of the roof. On the black-striped stone pillars are a "COFFEE COMPANY 프릳츠" sign on one side and the address plate for 17 Saechang-ro 2-gil on the other. Through the open gate you can see brick paving, steps and a small garden, with a person walking down the stairs. The old gate has been kept and used as the cafe's entrance.

First time here

  • Fritz (FRITZ) is a well-known specialty coffee roastery in Seoul. The seal logo is its emblem, and it sells beans.
  • The Dohwa branch is in Dohwa-dong, Mapo-gu, in a converted old yangok — a Western-style house of the 1970s–80s. The building alone is worth the trip.
  • Coffee is the centre of it, but there's bread — croissants, pastries — and seasonal ades, so you don't have to drink coffee.
  • You order at the counter and take a number (or a buzzer). A little English works.
  • It's a short walk from Mapo Station (lines 5 and 6); Gongdeok Station isn't far either.

This works well if

  • ✅ You like the feel of a cafe made from an old building
  • ✅ You are in Mapo and want somewhere for dessert and tea after a meal
  • ✅ You are interested in specialty coffee beans (you can buy and go)
  • ✅ You want a light stop of bread and a drink
  • ⚠️ You expect a quiet, roomy seat — it's a popular branch and often full
  • ⚠️ You are after a real meal — this is a cafe; eat around it

Before you go

  • Location — 17 Saechang-ro 2-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul. Walking distance from Mapo Station.
  • Ordering — coffee is the headline, but bread and an ade on their own are fine. Coming for dessert, one or two pastries and a drink is enough.
  • Seating — a popular branch; it gets crowded on weekends and afternoons.
  • A meal first — if you want something substantial before dessert, Mapo Yangji Seolleongtang, a long-time regular spot near the station, is an easy walk too.
  • Hours — weekdays 08:00–22:00, weekends/holidays 10:00–22:00 (as of Sep 2026). Check the map or call before you go.
Written up from a personal visit. Taste and preference vary by person (I don't assess bread professionally). Hours are (as of Sep 2026) — please check the shop's current information once more before you go.
