This is a tonkatsu specialist. The original location sits between Hapjeong and Sangsu, and branches seem to have multiplied lately.

Tsukizen Yeouido — Among All the Katsu Spots, One Dish Still Wins Me Back

Save places to build a route

The roskatsu and Chateaubriand katsu are solid, but

The roskatsu and Chateaubriand katsu on the menu are both decent. But this thick-cut Japanese-style tonkatsu format is everywhere in Seoul these days, so while the food is clearly good, it didn't blow me away.

Still, one dish keeps pulling me back: menchikatsu

Whenever tonkatsu crosses my mind, this place is the one that comes up — purely because of the menchikatsu. The thickness of the meat and the demi-glace sauce make for a combination good enough to make you grin.

What it looks like

On a round plate sit three pieces of breaded cutlet, covered thickly in a glossy dark brown sauce. Above them is finely shredded cabbage dressed with a sesame dressing, with a corn salad and a wedge of tomato alongside. The sauce covers most of the cutlet, so the crust is only visible at the edges.

The Yeouido branch is tucked in the basement of TP Tower

The Yeouido branch sits in a back corner of TP Tower's basement level. It's directly connected underground to Yeouido Station, so it's easy to find, but there's a real wait during weekday lunch. Give your plate number at the TP Tower counter for an hour of free parking.

A Yeouido meal route

It is within walking distance of Yeouido Station, so it combines easily with another meal on the same day. On days when katsu feels heavy, Konthai Yeouido (Thai food in IFC Mall) or Hadongkwan (clear beef soup) are lighter options, and if you want tacos instead of a burger there is The Taco Booth Yeouido. All of them are in the same Yeouido area.

For foreign visitors

  • Menchikatsu is ground beef formed into a patty, breaded and fried, then topped with a rich demi-glace sauce — a different style from typical Japanese tonkatsu
  • Roskatsu and Chateaubriand katsu are the classic Japanese-style cutlets: thick-fried and sliced against the grain, eaten with wasabi, salt, or sauce
  • None of it is spicy. The Yeouido branch is weekdays only — don't plan a weekend visit

Who this is for

  • ✅ Anyone who wants to try menchikatsu under demi-glace sauce
  • ✅ Anyone in Yeouido who wants a proven tonkatsu meal
  • ✅ Anyone who also wants to try the thick-sliced roskatsu or Chateaubriand katsu
  • ⚠️ If you've already hit several Japanese-style tonkatsu spots — the food is good, but it may not feel especially memorable
  • ⚠️ If you want to avoid the weekday lunch wait — aim to arrive before 11:10 AM
  • ⚠️ If you're planning a weekend trip — the Yeouido branch is closed on weekends
This is a first-hand account, and taste is subjective. Prices and hours are (as of Oct 2026) — worth checking again before you go.
