Konthai YeouidoThai in IFC Mall, a Sour Seafood Tom Yum Noodle Soup
The Yeouido branch of Konthai. It's inside IFC Mall, which has become a symbol of Yeouido.

From the Yeonnam original to Yeouido IFC
Konthai is a Thai restaurant known for its Yeonnam-dong original; lately there are several branches. The Yeouido one is in the IFC Mall food court, handy if you work nearby or came to shop. At lunch it's fairly busy with office workers.

What it looks like
A white bowl ringed with a blue pattern is filled with a thick yellow broth, packed with mussels, clams, squid and a large shrimp. Chopped peanuts, cilantro and herbs are heaped on top, with a brown seasoning powder in the center. The squid is scored and curled white, and the shrimp is plump. Chili oil spreads in red across the broth.
Menu words
- Tom yum is Thailand's sour and spicy broth flavored with lemongrass, lime and chili
- Ssal-guksu means rice noodles, made from rice flour
- Haemul means seafood such as mussels, clams, shrimp and squid
When you want a sour broth — seafood tom yum noodle soup
I'm not a wide-ranging Thai eater. But Thai food generally suits Korean palates, and within that I like sour flavours (the way I like acidity in coffee). So when I want a tom yum noodle soup in Korea, I go to Konthai or Soi Yeonnam.
This one comes generous with mussels, clams, shrimp and squid. The broth is sour and spicy, topped with ground peanut and cilantro. I went at a busy lunch hour, but finished the bowl clean and left, whatever anyone thought.
