Sinseung BanjeomA Chinese-Korean Restaurant in Yeouido, Level-4 Seafood Jjamppong and Kkanpung Shiitake
## The find this time: kkanpung shiitake

The new find this time was the stir-fried kkanpung shiitake. Thick-cut shiitake is battered and fried, then stir-fried with dried chillies, peanuts and vegetables in a kkanpung sauce.
The fried shiitake has a chewy-yet-crisp texture that gives you something to bite into without any meat. The sweet-sour, faintly spicy kkanpung sauce clings well, and it was excellent with a drink. It felt like discovering a new bar snack.
A friend says several of the restaurant's other dishes are good too. There seem to be other branches, so if one is near you it's worth a stop.
What it looks like
The large white bowl on the right is filled with a red broth, topped by a single abalone in its shell. Inside are a big shrimp, a dark ingredient, napa cabbage, bok choy, vegetables and bean sprouts, all plentiful. On the rectangular plate at the left, fried shiitake mushrooms are heaped with dried red chilies, peanuts and chopped green chili, garnished at the top with parsley and a flower. On the table sit a cup of warm tea and a small liquor glass.
Menu words
- Jjamppong is a Korean-Chinese noodle soup made spicy with seafood and vegetables
- Kkanpung is a Chinese-style technique of tossing fried ingredients in a tangy, spicy sauce with garlic and chili
- Shiitake is an aromatic, chewy mushroom
Jjamppong — level 4, and generous with the seafood
The jjamppong has a deep broth and is on the spicy side — about level 4 by this site's scale. It's generous with the fillings: abalone, shrimp and squid, plus napa cabbage and shiitake.
I like spicy food, so this was welcome rather than a problem. But someone not used to heat — a visitor, especially, going in with no warning — could find it seriously hot.
For visitors
- It's a Chinese-Korean restaurant. In Korea, "Chinese food" doesn't mean mainland Chinese cooking — it means the jajangmyeon / jjamppong / sweet-and-sour-pork family that developed in Korea.
- Jjamppong is a spicy noodle soup with seafood. This one is quite hot (level 4) — if you're weak with spice, think twice before ordering it.
- Kkanpung shiitake is fried shiitake tossed in a sweet-sour, spicy kkanpung sauce. There's no meat, so it's close to vegetarian, but the sauce may contain seafood ingredients — check if that matters to you.
- It comes with a lot of dried chillies, but the dish isn't meant to have you eat the chillies themselves.
- It's in Yeouido — close to Yeouido Station (lines 5 and 9) and Yeouinaru Station (line 5).
Who it's for
- ✅ Anyone who likes a spicy jjamppong
- ✅ Anyone who wants Chinese-Korean food to drink over — the kkanpung shiitake is the pick
- ✅ A group that needs seats in the evening in Yeouido (the room is large)
- ✅ Anyone who wants to order the cooked dishes beyond jajangmyeon and jjamppong (a friend rates them)
- ⚠️ Anyone weak with spice — the jjamppong is level 4
- ⚠️ Anyone wanting a very quiet meal — it's busy in the evening
Before you go
Yeouido is an office district, so a lot of places pack out at lunch — but this one had plenty of seats taken at dinner too. The room is wide enough that a bigger group shouldn't struggle to sit.
- Location — Yeouido, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul. There may be other branches, so check which one on the map before you go.
- Ordering — if you can't take heat, choose a milder noodle or rice dish instead of the jjamppong, and have the kkanpung shiitake alongside.
- Prices · hours · closing day — hours run weekdays 10:50 AM–9:00 PM (break 2:30–4:45 PM) and weekends 10:50 AM–8:30 PM, with no regular closing day (as of Sep 2026). Check dish prices on the menu on-site.
- Nearby — still in Yeouido, Beyond Vietnam (National Assembly branch) is an easy walk if you're craving pho for lunch instead.
