SigoljipLA Galbi in Euljiro's Rib Alley, Grilled for You
## Leave the grilling to the staff

An old place in Euljiro's galbi alley. LA galbi is beef short rib sliced thin across the bone (the "LA cut") and steeped in a soy marinade, grilled on a domed pan like the one in the photo.
Here, the staff grill it for you. Even after a long time away, they judge it well — a proper browned crust outside, not chewy inside, cut with scissors at just the right moment. They know when to turn it before the marinade scorches bitter.

The sides come with a pot of doenjang stew and an assortment of namul and kimchi. The seasoning isn't strong, so it's easy going even if you can't take spice.
What it looks like
On a black cast-iron grill plate, bone-in LA galbi is piled high like a small mountain. The surface is grilled to a deep brown with scorched patches here and there, and the white cross-sections of bone show through. Behind the grill sits a portable gas canister, and around it are plates of onion, a stew, seasoned bean sprouts and pickles. A water glass is also visible on one side.
Menu words
- LA-galbi is short rib cut thin across the bone and marinated, one kind of Korean grilled galbi
- Nopo means a long-established shop
After Sansu Gapsan, a second stop
After drinks nearby, I came by as a second stop for the first time in a while. We had our first round — boiled offal and a drink — at Sansu Gapsan, an old sundae-guk (blood sausage soup) place in Euljiro, then walked over here. Coming back after a long gap, the seats are still comfortable and the worn-alley feel of Euljiro 3-ga is unchanged.
Already full, I skipped the gyeranmari this place is known for and ordered only the LA galbi.
For visitors
- LA galbi is beef short rib in the American "LA cut" — sliced thin across the bone — steeped in a soy, sugar and garlic marinade. Not spicy; salty with a slight sweetness.
- The staff grill it, so you don't need to know how. When it's done they cut it with scissors; eat it with the lettuce and side dishes.
- The bone is still attached, so it's fine to pick it up by hand. Working the meat off the bone is the normal way to eat it.
- This place is known for its side of gyeranmari (rolled omelette). I skipped it this time, full, but it's worth adding on a first visit.
- It's in the Euljiro 3-ga rib alley — a short walk from Euljiro 3-ga Station (subway lines 2 and 3), and under ten minutes from Myeongdong.
Who it's for
- ✅ Anyone who likes soy-marinated grilled galbi — a good fit if you want Korean BBQ that isn't spicy
- ✅ Anyone who finds grilling meat a chore — the staff handle it
- ✅ Anyone wanting a plate of meat as a second stop on an Euljiro drinking night
- ✅ Anyone with non-Korean company — the dish needs almost no explaining
- ⚠️ Anyone after a cheap meal — galbi is priced per portion, and rice, naengmyeon and gyeranmari add up faster than you'd think
- ⚠️ Anyone wanting punchy, spicy flavour — this is sweet-salty soy marinade
Before you go
- Ordering — galbi is usually from two portions. On a first visit, adding a gyeranmari rounds out the table.
- Price — LA galbi runs from ₩18,000 (as of Sep 2026). Just know that coming in for "a quick drink" and then ordering around can run up a fair bill.
- Hours · closing day — Mon–Sat 11:30–21:30 (last order 20:30), closed Sundays (as of Sep 2026). Still worth checking the map or calling before you go.
- Seating — it's an old alley place, so it can get crowded in the evening.
