Seosan Kkotge — Raw Soy-Marinated Crab, Booking Required

Save places to build a route

Two things, and they matter more than anything else in this article.

One: the crab is raw. Ganjang gejang (간장게장) is raw blue crab cured in soy sauce — not cooked, not steamed. It is a beloved Korean dish, but if raw shellfish is a hard no for you, skip this one.

Two: you need a reservation. This restaurant seats booked guests. Walk-ins are seated only if a table happens to be free. Make the booking before you go.

What it looks like

Soy-marinated crab sits steeped in its sauce on a white plate. Over the opened crab shell, lumps of orange roe are heaped, with sliced hot green chili and sesame seeds scattered thickly on top. Crab legs and claws are scattered around the plate's edge, and the shell is a deep, blue-tinged color. The soy marinade pools at the bottom of the plate.

Menu words

  • Gejang is raw crab cured in soy sauce or seasoning, and ganjang-gejang is the soy-sauce-cured version
  • Al is the orange roe of the female crab, especially prized in gejang
  • If raw is unfamiliar, ask the staff how to eat it before ordering

How the visit works

You arrive at your booked time, they check your name, and you are led to a table already fully set. It is efficient and it moves fast.

The flip side: service is brisk. Do not come expecting warmth from the staff. Read it as a consequence of how the place runs rather than rudeness.

There is also no menu to choose from — one set meal, the ganjang gejang set. No choices, just marinated crab plus side dishes. In practice this is convenient if you don't read Korean. You sit down, and food arrives.

The set is the real reason to come

Being honest: the strength here is the whole table, not the crab.

The full set — soy-marinated crab with grilled croaker, steamed egg, spicy crab stew, greens and pancakes

What's in the photo:

  • Ganjang gejang — the soy-marinated crab, centre
  • Grilled croaker (a small whole fish)
  • Steamed egg — soft, savoury, served in a hot pot
  • Spicy crab stew
  • Jeon — savoury pancakes
  • Spinach, perilla leaves, pickled cucumber, seasoned tofu skin, water kimchi, dried seaweed

The side dishes are better than the crab itself. That is my own impression.

For a Korean restaurant, this is a hanjeongsik-style spread: many small dishes arriving together rather than one big plate. If that style of eating appeals to you, this delivers it.

About the crab itself

It isn't over-salted. Many places cure gejang aggressively salty; this one is balanced, and that's a genuine plus.

But the amount of crab meat is smaller than at the better-known houses nearby. Mapo and Ahyeon have a cluster of famous gejang restaurants, and on crab meat alone this one doesn't lead.

So, plainly:

  • Coming for crab meat above all — you may leave a little disappointed
  • Coming for a Korean set meal where crab is the centrepiece — you'll be happy

At ₩40,000 a head, the second framing is the fair one, and by that measure the table is good value.

How to eat it

There is a technique, and it's worth knowing.

  1. Pick up the legs and suck the meat out. Digging with chopsticks wastes your time
  2. Put rice inside the body shell, then mix it with the roe and the soy marinade. This is the point of the dish — Koreans call gejang a bapdoduk, a "rice thief," for exactly this reason
  3. Your hands will get messy. Ask for wet wipes at the start

Practical notes

  • Parking — check ahead (as of Aug 2026)
  • Lunch runs 11:50am–2:30pm, dinner 5:30–8pm (break 2:30–5:30pm, as of Sep 2026). As far as I know there is no regular closing day
  • Delivery is available
  • Dessert — being in Dohwa-dong, finishing with coffee at Fritz Coffee Dohwa, a cafe in a converted old house, is an easy add-on
  • Getting there — between Gongdeok and Mapo stations. Gongdeok connects to the Airport Railroad, so it's easy from Incheon Airport

Who this suits

  • ✅ You want a full Korean set-meal spread, not a single dish
  • ✅ You'd rather have balanced seasoning than heavy salt
  • ✅ You're fine booking ahead and arriving on time
  • ⚠️ The crab is raw and uncooked
  • ⚠️ Come for the crab meat volume and you may be underwhelmed
  • ⚠️ Without a booking you may not get a table
Based on a personal visit. Prices and hours change often, so anything uncertain is marked (as of Aug 2026).
