From Hamdeok to Jocheon, in a new building

Going back after a long time, I found it had moved from near Hamdeok Beach to Jocheon, into a handsome newly built building. If you only remember the old location you'll make a wasted trip, so check the current address before you go.

The signature is the offal soup

The offal soup is the signature here. A hefty broth with fresh offal, and when you wrap the offal in a perilla leaf with salted fermented fish, it tastes great. It brought back fond old memories of how good it was.

What it looks like on the table

It arrives in the black earthenware pot, still bubbling. A pale froth covers the broth, with green onion, chili flakes and a dark powder sprinkled on top, and the offal shows white through the soup. Alongside sit cubed radish kimchi, minced garlic, sliced green chili and a small dish of red seasoning. The garlic, chili and seasoning are there so you can adjust the saltiness and heat to your own taste.

What to know before you go

  • No takeout. You can only eat it right there in the restaurant
  • It's open only from 7:00 AM to 1:30 PM (as of Oct 2026). It's a place that closes around lunchtime, so go too late and you'll miss it
  • The menu is just two items: offal soup (12,000 KRW) and haejangguk (11,000 KRW)

For foreign visitors

  • Naejang-tang is a soup made with beef offal. Haejangguk is a family of rice soups eaten to recover from a hangover
  • The way to eat here is to wrap the offal in a perilla leaf and add jeotgal (fermented salted fish). Jeotgal is salty and strongly flavored, so opinions split
  • The texture of offal can feel unfamiliar. There are only two menu items, so ask the staff what each soup is before ordering
  • It opens at 7 AM, so it also works well as a breakfast in Jeju

Who this is for

  • ✅ Anyone who wants a proper local haejangguk in Jeju
  • ✅ Anyone curious about the Jeju way of eating — offal wrapped in perilla leaf
  • ✅ Anyone who needs a hearty meal early in the morning
  • ⚠️ If you want takeout — it isn't available
  • ⚠️ If you're heading there after lunch — it closes at 1:30 PM
  • ⚠️ If the texture of offal isn't for you
This is a first-hand account, and taste is subjective. Prices and hours are (as of Oct 2026) — worth checking again before you go.
