Rokgalbi HapjeongPre-grilled Marinated Pork Ribs with Real Meat on the Bone

This is a place I genuinely like. Several branches have opened recently, and I've been to a few, including the original in Sillim — this post is about the Hapjeong branch specifically.

Every branch trims the ribs differently

Of the branches I've tried, Hapjeong seemed to have the most meat left on the bone. Sillim's original is decent too, but the amount of meat left clinging to the bone is different enough between branches that you can tell — it seems to come down to how each location trims the ribs.

The ribs come pre-grilled once already

Rokgalbi serves its ribs already grilled once before they reach your table. You get ribs that have already been partly cooked, then finish them off lightly on the tabletop grill. It's not a place that starts you off with raw meat, so it moves quickly.

There's a separate spicy version

What I had this time was the marinated ribs, but the menu also has fully spicy pork ribs as a separate item. Those are quite hot — if you're a foreign visitor who doesn't handle spice well, I'd expect them to be noticeably spicy for you. Even by Korean standards, they're not in the "mild" range.

This time I ordered the marinated ribs

The marinated ribs themselves are not spicy. Even so, they come with the same spicy dipping sauce served on the side as the fully spicy version, so you can dip a piece in, taste how hot it is, and decide on a future visit whether to move on to the fully spicy version.

Pork ribs over charcoal

Red embers glow beneath the wire grill, and the ribs are cooking above them. The surface has darkened along the bone, with glazed, shiny patches next to charred ones. A piece in front curls with its skin side rounded, and a small dish of yellow powder sits in one corner. A little smoke is rising, and the photo caught it.

Side dishes are up to you

I don't usually order side dishes myself, but the people I went with often ordered the flying fish roe rice ball and the iced mook (acorn jelly) soup. Worth adding if the ribs alone don't feel like enough.

Before you go

  • The ribs arrive pre-grilled — this isn't a raw-meat-from-scratch place, so turnover is fast
  • The marinated ribs themselves aren't spicy — order the fully spicy version separately if you want heat
  • The marinated ribs still come with spicy sauce on the side — you can dip and test the heat before committing
  • Both Hapjeong and Sangsu stations are about a 10-minute walk
  • Prices and hours can differ by branch — double-check you're not mixing this up with a different location
This is a first-hand account, and taste is subjective. Prices and hours change often, so anything uncertain is marked (as of Sep 2026).
