I stopped in on a late-winter morning, when spring was not far off.

The room catches you first

When I think of this place, the space comes to mind before the coffee does.

The photo is that impression. Cups lined up on dark wood shelving, and along the bar a grinder, drippers, and glass jars of beans in a row. You can see at a glance that someone has fussed over this room.

What it looks like — the drip bar

Against dark brown wood shelving and lit display cabinets, coffee tools line up on a black granite counter. A yellow grinder, white ceramic and glass drippers, bean canisters with handles and a black pour-over kettle are visible, with grey bean bags printed "TAILOR COFFEE" standing in a row. Small glass jars with cork stoppers hold ground coffee, with description cards in front. Cups are stacked on the wall shelves.

Menu words

  • Drip coffee is made by slowly pouring hot water over grounds in a filter
  • Americano is espresso with added water

One americano, and a confession of taste

I ordered an americano in that cool weather, and the flavour of the coffee and the atmosphere of the place both stayed with me.

One thing I should declare, though. I like coffee with acidity.

Coffee taste splits people, and acidity splits them most sharply of all — some seek it out, some avoid it. It seems more useful to tell you where my impression is coming from than to pretend it is neutral.

Three honest things — price, seats, location

Coffee here is not cheap. If you arrive with neighbourhood-cafe prices in mind, it will feel expensive.

Even so, if you are nearby, it is worth stopping in for one cup. This is less a place to travel across the city for, and more a good place to know about when you are already in that area.

There are not many tables. That can be a plus — it never feels crowded — but it also means you may not get a seat.

The location is good. The Bank of Korea Money Museum is right there, and Shinsegae main store, Namdaemun Market and Myeongdong are all within walking distance. The view out of the window feels European. Walk on toward the market and you'll hit Maknae Hoejip, which only serves its sashimi set at weekday lunch — worth timing your coffee around.

It works well as somewhere to sit for a while in the middle of a Myeongdong walk.

For international visitors

  • An americano is espresso with hot water added. It is the most commonly ordered coffee in Korea
  • This shop works with beans that carry acidity. If you want a dark, bitter-forward cup, ask before ordering
  • Takeaway is available. If there is no seat, take it with you
  • There are few tables. For a larger group, somewhere else may suit better
  • No phone number is registered, so checking ahead is difficult
  • The closing day could not be confirmed. Keep that in mind if you are travelling far
  • In most Korean cafes you order and pay at the counter first. Sitting down and waiting will not get you served

Go if

  • ✅ You like coffee with acidity
  • ✅ You enjoy a room as much as a cup
  • ✅ You have a Myeongdong, Namdaemun or Bank of Korea stop planned
  • ✅ You want somewhere quiet, alone or as a pair
  • ⚠️ Coffee is not cheap here
  • ⚠️ Few tables — awkward for a group
  • ⚠️ The closing day is unconfirmed
Written up after actually drinking there. The taste judgement carries my own preference for acidity. Prices and hours change often, so anything unconfirmed is marked (as of Aug 2026).
