The main dish is the uni rice bowl, plus bibimbap and seaweed soup

The center of the menu is the uni rice bowl (seonggedeopbap). There are also sea urchin bibimbap and seaweed soup. There's also a Jeju Hamdeok branch (530 Johamhaean-ro, 4th floor, Jocheon-eup, Jeju-si, Jeju). This post is about the Aewol branch.

What it looks like

Rice sits on a white plate with blue lines radiating outward. The right half is covered with sea urchin roe, and the left half carries a thin green sheet of seaweed, a lump of wasabi and a small edible flower. Five small compartments along the top hold braised black beans, a pink salted item and a red seasoned side, pickled shoots, kimchi and stir-fried anchovies, with roasted seaweed on one side and seaweed soup on the right. Everything is laid out neatly on a black tray.

Small and large, by grams

The uni-don is split into small and large by the grams of uni, and the price differs. As I remember it, the large was 80 g and the uni platter (uni hanpan) was 100 g (check the exact grams before you go). As of Oct 2026 the price is 29,000 KRW for small and 39,000 KRW for large.

Even the large wasn't enough, but the uni was sweet

For someone who loves uni, even the large didn't feel like enough. Still, I enjoyed uni that was sweet rather than salty, more or less. If you eat a lot of uni, factor the portion into your order.

Two things I wished were different

  • They gave only one sheet of gamtae. I was so disappointed that I asked for more, and was told extra has to be ordered separately
  • They don't sell alcohol. If you want a drink with your uni, you'll need another plan

Taking the uni platter to go

Still hungry, I took the uni platter to go. I needed a drink. But uni spoils easily, so you have to get back and eat it quickly. My steps got faster.

Before you go

  • It's open 9 AM–7:30 PM, with a break around 2:30–4 PM (as of Oct 2026; sources differ slightly on the times, so check before you go)
  • No alcohol is sold, and takeout is available
  • Parking is available

A note for international visitors

  • Uni is the Japanese name for sea urchin roe, and uni-don is a rice bowl topped with it. On the Korean menu it's seonggedeopbap
  • Gamtae is a fine, soft green seaweed eaten with rice. This shop gives only one sheet, and extra has to be ordered
  • Sizes are small and large, with different grams of uni. I found even the large too little
  • Alcohol isn't sold

Who it's for

  • ✅ People who want to eat uni (sea urchin) properly
  • ✅ People who like sweet uni that isn't salty
  • ⚠️ People who want to eat a lot of uni — even the large may leave you wanting more
  • ⚠️ People planning to have alcohol with the meal — none is sold
  • ⚠️ People who want plenty of gamtae — extra must be ordered
This is a record from a real visit, and opinions on taste are personal. Prices and hours are marked (as of Oct 2026), so please check once more before you go.
