One set is enough for two

I had the fajita & taco set (for two). It arrives exactly as in the photo.

• Cast-iron pan, right — the fajita: prawns and meat, grilled shishito peppers and cherry tomatoes, rice topped with sour cream, all in one pan
• Board, left — tacos, already assembled with meat and vegetables on tortillas
• Small bowls in the middle — guacamole, sour cream, salsa, coriander and lime
• Plus fries and extra tortillas

You do not need to order anything else. If you have come for tacos and do not know what to pick, this set is the answer.

The food is good and the room is pleasant. It goes well with beer.

What it looks like

A full spread is laid out on a wooden table. In the large aluminum pan at the right, yellow rice topped with cheese and a white sauce is ringed by grilled shrimp, grilled green chili, cherry tomatoes, pieces of fried meat and shredded meat. On the wooden plate at the left are two tacos with meat, vegetables and sauce in tortillas. In the middle come fries and nachos, with guacamole, sour cream, salsa, cilantro and lime in small dishes.

Mullae has changed

This is the part I want to say as much as anything about the restaurant.

There are far more young people in Mullae now than there used to be, and foreign visitors too.

Mullae was a district of small steel workshops. They still run during the day — and in between them, studios, cafes and bars have moved into the old buildings. The area is called Mullae Art Village.

So this is a neighbourhood where it would be a waste to eat and leave. Walk the alleys after your meal.

Why it is worth a short stop

Mullae Station is on Line 2, the loop line that circles Seoul. Hongdae, Euljiro 1-ga, Gangnam and Jamsil all sit on that same line.

That means no transfer. From Mullae it is roughly 5 km in a straight line to Hongdae, 9 km to Euljiro 1-ga and 12 km to Gangnam.

It barely takes you off your main route, so if you want to see a place where the old and the young sit side by side, it is worth a short stop. Neighbourhoods where steel workshops and artist studios share one alley are not common, even in Seoul.

The restaurant is 510 m from exit 7 of Mullae Station, a 9-minute walk.

Not Korean food, but worth knowing

This is not Korean food — it is Mexican. But it makes an easy meal if you are in Mullae, so it is worth noting. If you're craving real Korean sashimi instead, Dorimhang Yeongdeungpo is in the same Yeongdeungpo district.

• Barely spicy. The heat is in the salsa served on the side, so you decide. Skip it and nothing is spicy
• Coriander comes separately. If you dislike it, simply leave it out — it is not mixed in beforehand
• Tacos are eaten with your hands. Fold the tortilla
• The fajita pan is extremely hot. Do not touch it
• The tortillas are wheat flour. Not suitable if you avoid gluten
• There are prawns. Mention it before ordering if you have a shellfish allergy
• One set feeds two. You do not need to order per person
• On weekdays there is a break from 3:00 to 5:00 PM. A late lunch will not work (there is no break on Saturday or Sunday)
• The weekday lunch menu stops at 2:10 PM (except public holidays)
