Gyodong SeokgalbiA Hot-Plate Galbi Spot in Jeonju Hanok Village, for When You're Hungry
Walking around Jeonju Hanok Village, there's a point where you start to get hungry. That's exactly when this place caught my eye.

A table set for the eyes first
I ordered seokgalbi, and even though it's a single hot-plate dish, the table filled up with side dishes. Japchae, acorn jelly, wild garlic, sweet pumpkin porridge — well over a dozen colorful little plates. It's a spread you can enjoy just by looking at it.

The seokgalbi on its stone plate
On a black stone plate sits a heap of bite-sized marinated galbi, scattered with sliced green onion and sesame. Enoki mushrooms and onion lie beneath the meat. The plate comes on a wooden stand, ringed with japchae, stuffed cucumber kimchi, kimchi and garlic, while rice and soup arrive in separate stainless bowls.
The taste? It was... fine
To be honest, the taste itself was just average. Not bad, but not something to rave about either — it was just fine, perfectly edible. Still, between the number of side dishes and the lively, colorful spread, I left full and in a good mood.
Go in without setting your expectations too high, more as a solid meal break in the middle of touring the hanok village, and it fits the bill well.
Whichever way you walk out, there's a path
Once you finish and step out, you're in the hanok village, so wherever you walk next, pretty alleys and walking paths carry on from there. You don't really need a set destination — just follow your feet.
Good to know
- Seokgalbi is marinated galbi grilled sizzling on a hot stone plate. It's not spicy.
- It comes with a dozen-plus side dishes — part of the fun is trying each one.
- It's inside the hanok village, so it's an easy, walkable stop for visitors.
- Keep expectations moderate — the spread is more memorable than the flavor itself.
