Other things worth knowing

- Toilets are free and everywhere — subway stations, department stores, parks. In subway stations they are often inside the ticket gates
- Use convenience stores. Open 24 hours, with meals, drinks, basic medicine, umbrellas and T-money recharging
- Public WiFi is common on subways, buses and in cafes. A SIM or eSIM is still far more convenient
- Tap water is drinkable, though most people use filtered water or bottled
- Power is 220V with the round two-pin European plug. US and Japanese plugs need an adapter
- Tax refund — spend above a threshold and you can reclaim the tax. Show your passport at the shop for the paperwork or an immediate refund. Thresholds and limits change often, so confirm in store
